BUZZY AND MAUI JIM SUNGLASSES

MAUI JIM SUNGLASSES contacted Buzzy's and asked if they could use some of our surf sticker art in their summer catalog. We said yes. Folks here scored plenty of free sunglasses. Most excellent exchange. You can check out MAUI JIM SUNGLASSES here if you would like.

Please visit Ricochet's website www.surfdogricochet.com (or click on the doggy - that's her - below!) to see how you can support this surFURgirl ..er I mean SURFice Dog in her fundraising efforts to help paralyzed surfers, animal shelters, childrens' hospitals and so much more more! Ricochet and her human mom/buddy are tireless!

THE DAILY WAVESTER
Our Local (and Internationally Known) Hero, Dale Webster
When Dale Webster reached 11,000 consecutive days (thirty years!) of surfing, we made him one of Buzzy's Heroes and made a sticker honoring him. He is a Guinness Book of World Records Record Holder.
Update - summer 2010, Dale's still going strong! That's thirty five years, folks, of daily waves.
We are proud to carry the only Dale Would Go stickers available.

STOKED! SKIING Magazine Chose Us!

OMG, The REAL Gidget!
  • Pacific Beach Surf Club Tandem Team Halley Burd, Travis Long and their sponsor, "Gidget" Kathy Kohner Zuckerman.

Here's one of our favorites. Buzzy's California Surf Stickers is HONORED to be the provider of surf team stickers to the real Gidget, the original Gidget, Kathy Kohner Zuckerman. She's the girl the original "Gidget" book was written about. The book was subsequently made into a hit movie. The Gidget's own daddy-o, pops, father was the author of that original Gidget book, the well-known screenwriter Fred Kohner. The book was based on the true exploits of that surfer chica daughter of his!

Soooo, I'm sitting at work making stickers, and I get an email asking if we could make some Gidget stickers. I wrote back and said one, we didn't do custom work and two, the order would have to be for a woman named Kathy Kohner or it might be a copyright infringement. I thought that would be the last I heard about that. But to my continued amazement, I got back an email saying "Yeah, that's her. She sponsors our team." I about died. Seriously. Kind of one of those "we are not wooorrrthy" moments.

They didn't ask us to donate them, but we are proud and happy to donate the stickers to the team. Here's a picture of "Gidget" Kohner Zuckerman in 2006 with her tandem surf team, Travis Long and Halley Burd out of the Pacific Beach Surf Club. We did multiples of the large sticker you see on the board as well as cool tribals in various sizes with the team members' names.

  • BUZZY'S, KATRINA and the American Red Cross

Shortly after Katrina rampaged across Louisiana, Mississippi and other parts of The South, Buzzy's was contacted by a Red Cross volunteer in Houston. One of the things Buzzy's was able to do was to send a few hundred kid stickers and "I Heart New Orleans" stickers to Houston for the displaced people from other areas of the Gulf. Buzzy's also provided the above pictured ID stickers to Red Cross Volunteers across the South.

THEY'RE SLAUGHTERING DOLPHINS IN JAPAN FOR NO GOOD REASON.

Buzzy's California Surf Stickers applauds the surfers and others who tryto stop the dolphin round-up and slaughter in Japan including Dave Rastovich's group, Surfers for Cetaceans, along with people representing the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Save the Waves, Minds in the Water, and The Whaleman Foundation. We also give big kudos to Hayden Panettiere, an actress for the TV show Heroes, for bringing media attention to this outrageous tragedy. The meat of the dolphins, who are mammals, not fish, is toxic, yet it is my understanding that the slaughter is some kind of government subsidized program and the meat is fed to school children. Gag. The dolphins are smarter than doggies, smarter than kitties, their meat is worthless, they are killed in an inhumane, savage way, yet most of us do nothing. Of course, most of us do nothing about anything - one look at this planet tells us that. Kudos to all involved in this brave awareness effort!

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS.

Buzzy's California Surf Stickers was happy to participate as a business in the Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association summer camp for children. The kids were between the ages of 16 and 21 and were diagnosed with one of the 43 diseases covered under the umbrella of the Association's care. We were tickled to have a chance to help out and we keep a good thought for all the kids.

Mihos backyard had always been the sea. The creatures within it were an endless source of fascination. But when the sea steals away her small family, she finds herself the ward of an uncle she has never met and submerged in a world she has never known: Japan. From the city of Nagoya to the seaside town of Goza, Miho struggles to fit in and navigate the language, the culture and her own grief. It is in Goza that she discovers her surprising family history and finds new teachers. She is befriended by an old man who becomes her Sensei and teaches her Sho-do, The Way of the Brush. And it is there she meets Gaia, the living entity of the Earth. Gaia grants her amazing powers to connect with the minds in the water and Miho is given access and understanding to all the worlds oceans. Will she be able to use her powers to help balance the traditions of the past with the demands of the present? Can she overcome her outsider status to help others understand The Way of Water?
